The Chevy Cruze Hatchback arrives in the USA this fall
The rumor was true as Chevrolet has revealed the first images and details of its brand new 2017 Cruze Hatchback programmed for a public reveal in Detroit.
Chevrolet is introducing the 2017 Cruze Hatchback at the North American International Auto Show which gets underway next week in Detroit. And that is exactly what it is doing by launching the 2017 Cruze Hatch, to give customers in the USA a sporty and functional choice without having to sacrifice all the features and benefits that have made the Cruze sedan such a well-loved vehicle. The main change with the hatchback comes when speaking of the cargo space, which is of 18.5 cubic feet (524 liters) behind the rear shelf and going up to 42 cubic feet (1,189 liters) when all rear seats are folded. It is more than 200 pounds (91 kg) lighter than the previous-generation model due largely to a body structure that is 100 pounds lighter and an engine that’s 44 pounds (20 kg) lighter.
GM India is reportedly working on a mild facelift of the old gen Cruze sedan for this year before bringing the next gen sedan in 2017.
The new Cruze sedan will be offered in L, LS, LT, and Premier trim levels, as well as an available sporty RS package. Chevy says the Z-link setup helps deliver a more balanced driving experience, as the rear suspension improves the ride and better follows the lead of the front. Output improves from 138 horsepower and 135 pound-feet of torque to 153 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Like the standard 2016 Chevrolet Cruze, the Hatch comes standard with a backup camera, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, as well as available 4G LTE and Wi-Fi hotspot tech. “As Cruze continues to set the tone for Chevrolet globally, it articulates the brand promise of offering cars with the latest technologies, more features and greater efficiency, performance and safety with fresh, distinctive styling”.
Cruze is Chevrolet’s best-selling vehicle around the world, with 3.5 million sold since it went on sale in 2008.
