The Children From ‘Willy Wonka’ Just Had The Sweetest Reunion
Tim Burton also tried to make his version a bit unusual with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in 2005, but in his obnoxious, circus-like way that just felt far too artificial and weird just for weird’s sake.
The cast got together to celebrate the movie’s 44th anniversary, missing only Gene Wilder as the eponymous Willy Wonka, and a lot of them were hardly recognisable!
“We think of ourselves as part of a family”, explains Paris Themmen, aka Mike Teevee.
Goffe, an original Oompa Loompa older than the once-child stars surrounding him, noted the reunion is “scary” because of the amount of time that passed.
“It’s fun to be bad and to be encouraged to be bad”, Julie Dawn Cole (Veruca Salt) remembered.
The group of five golden ticket winners and one Oompa Loompa revealed they have kept in touch, bound by the good fortune of appearing in the iconic film. As if you couldn’t tell in the movie, it wasn’t actually made of chocolate. “There was never any “Please don’t follow Mr. Wilder” – and we must have been pretty tiresome”.
Ostrum, it seems, didn’t continue his acting career, instead opting to become a veterinarian. “Don’t do that.’ And we had Mel Stuart, our director, saying, ‘Be meaner'”. They’re all in agreement that if given the chance, they’d go back and experience being on that set again.
That’s why we were jumping for joy when the cast reunited on the Today Show for the whole world to catch up on their adventures since the landmark film.
