The cost for a Superbowl commercial has hit a record high
The controversial nearly hilarious Deflatgate has not let any air out of the sales of the Super Bowl advertising prices, which have reached yet another record high.
Those ads sold for a reported $4.5 million on NBC in 2015; however, this year, they are going for a bit more.
Super Bowl 50 is still six months away – but the NFL championship game has already put some impressive numbers up on the board: A 30-second spot will cost $5 million for the first time.
That is price for next February’s Super Bowl 50, which will be celebrating its golden anniversary and is biggest game of each year for football at any level.
Advertisers have shifted about $1.5 billion total from TV spending to digital spending in the last year, according to data from market research firm Standard Media Index. Because of this, advertisers are willing to do whatever it takes to clinch a coveted spot on Super Bowl Sunday.
Ad prices have gone up year after year, along with growing viewership. Presumably. Super Bowl commercials will always be primarily duds – is anyone looking forward to more Dorito ads? – but occasionally some gems slip through. Streaming set a record as well.
