The Crystal Maze set to return to TV after 21 years
It’s been 21 years since The Crystal Maze last aired on our TV screens but now it looks like the show could be set to return for a charity special.
Details for a full new series are yet to be fleshed out, but further episodes are expected to follow should the show’s return prove a ratings hit.
Just to make things even more exciting, reports suggest that David Tennant is being lined up to take over presenting duties, from where Richard O’Brien left off. If they’re looking for Tennant-luring tips, we’d recommend tying a piece of string to a packet of fig rolls and leaving it outside his front door. At the moment, the future of this Maze is far from crystal clear.
The Crystal Maze has already been resurrected this year as a live event in London, which was successfully crowdfunded through Indiegogo.
“It’s still remembered extremely fondly today”.
They added, “Channel 4 are hoping to tap into that nostalgia and believe viewers will jump at the chance to finally take on the show’s adventurous challenges themselves”.
A Channel 4 spokesperson confirmed to the BBC that the show may be back as part of the channel’s Stand Up To Cancer fundraising initiative in October.
At its height, The Crystal Maze was the most popular programme on Channel 4, regularly drawing in between four and six million viewers.
