The Daily Heat Index: Build Your Own Mjolnir Only You Can Lift
He then took his invention to Venice Beach, California to show that only he was worthy of wielding the mighty weapon. But rather than create a replica that just anyone could lift, Pan’s Mjolnir can only be lifted by him.
An Avengers fan with a bit of technical know-how and a few absurdly strong magnets has built a real life Mjolnir, AKA Thor’s Hammer, that only he can lift.
The tinkerer YouTube channel Sufficiently Advanced decided to make that spell on Mjölnir come true. Inside the head of his Mjolnir, he packed a microwave oven transformer electromagnet, which uses electricity to produce a magnetic field. Put it all together and you have an incredibly power magnetic that is almost impossible for mere mortals to lift when it is placed onto a stationary (and well secured) metal object.
The handle is attached to a capacitive touch sensor, which in turn is attached to an Arduino Pro Mini and a solid state relay, which works as a switching device.
However, a fingerprint sensor that is keyed to Pan’s thumbprint can be used to turn off the hammer. Pan’s magnet is so strong that once it’s set down on a metal surface is can’t be budged by anyone other than the chosen one – himself. Sometimes brain does beat brawn.
