The death of queuing: Starbucks launches Mobile Order and Pay in UK
Customers sitting in a Starbucks who want a new drink but don’t want to leave their possessions unsupervised could effectively use Mobile Order and Pay to order a new drink without having to get up – the luxury.
The App has received a very positive response from customers in the United States where it has been available since December 2014.
Ian Cranna, Vice President Marketing & Category EMEA said, “We Brits are famous for queuing, but in an age of such sophisticated technology ‘why wait?'”.
Following an initial launch in 2014, and the nationwide rollout in the U.S. earlier this month, Starbucks has confirmed that it is bringing its Mobile Order and Pay service to the United Kingdom from the 1 October in 152 stores across London.
Initially only available for users of the Starbucks iOS app, the service will allow people to place an order at their local Starbucks branch and pay for it via their mobile.
We’ll have to see tonight which stores will support mobile ordering (“participating London stores” Starbucks says in the app’s release notes), when the feature will be rolling out to stores and if it actually works as described.
