The Dolphins fired defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle as part of coaching-staff
Coyle was retained this off-season by Joe Philbin who also on Sunday told the media that he would not fire Coyle.
Kevin Coyle, the embattled Dolphins defensive coordinator whose unit has under-achieved as pass rushers and been trampled as run defenders, has been fired, according to a National Football League source.
Miami entered the year as a playoff contender largely due to its expected defensive output.
Three days after the firing of Joe Philbin, the Miami Dolphins got around to doing something about the defensive coordinator whose performance has been a magnet for criticism, too.
With Coyle and Philbin out, Ross and the Dolphins’ front office hope that this team (with all its talent) can salvage a solid finish to what has been a disastrous start to a 2015 season everybody in Miami had high hopes for. Anarumo had held that position since 2012 and is a candidate to take over the full-time role at DC if the team succeeds going forward.
This season, the Dolphins rank 30th in the league defensively, giving up 399.5 yards per game, despite the $114 million addition of Ndamukong Suh.
Coyle was defensive backs coach at the Cincinnati Bengals prior to taking the Miami job.
The Dolphins are on their bye week, and don’t play another game until October 18th against the Titans. Burris had been serving as the team’s cornerbacks coach prior to this and will continue to work mostly with the cornerbacks.
