The Drakeover: A Radio Station in North Carolina Is Playing Drake 24/7
If the song’s not by Drake you won’t hear it on an FM radio station based in Charlotte, North Carolina.
As if he weren’t omnipresent enough, one Charlotte, NC radio station is keeping their air time filled with Drake’s music 24/7.
It’s not clear whether 92.7 will forever dedicate its airwaves to the Toronto rapper, or if it’s a marketing scheme to hook listeners for whatever platform they’re ultimately going for.
As for rumors that Drake may have purchased Praise 92.7, the web site radioINSIGHT.com notes that the Toronto-born entertainer is a Canadian citizen, which renders him legally ineligible to own a U.S. station. To bring attention to KROI’s relaunch as Boom 92, the station deployed an all-Beyoncé format for a few days before shifting to its regular playlist.
The success of Boom 92 influenced parent company Radio One to launch similar classic hip-hop formats in Philadelphia and Dallas.
“Summer’s mine I swear I said about a hundred times, I’m gonna need it back”, Drake rapped on his 2011 album, Take Care.
