The Electoral College Was Born In Racism. Let’s Drop Out
Marco Rubio’s wonderful feat of making the 2016 election even more juvenile than Donald Trump did.
Shortly after President Obama was elected in 2008, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell stated, “The most important thing we can achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president”. What the Clinton supporters ignore when boasting about the popular vote count, is that Clinton lost nearly all the states in between the east and west coast. First, not all Trump voters are true supporters. “The right of suffrage”, he said, “was much more diffusive in the Northern than the Southern States; and the latter could have no influence in the election on the score of Negroes”. The Republicans did not give up on me, they are giving up on decency in America.
Donald Trump and his arrogance, bigotry, ignorance and ugliness should be ghosts of America’s past. But he did not dismiss the notion that he will soon preside over a deeply polarized nation. CBS News reporting Clinton lost five votes, and Trump two. “We’re going to put it back together and we’re going to have a country that’s very well-healed”. In 2000 a switch of fewer than 300 voters in Florida would have made Al Gore president. Once he takes office, he will join a select group of just three other USA presidents-George W. Bush, Rutherford B. Hayes and Benjamin Harrison-who have lost the popular vote but won the White House.
Donald Trump doesn’t want big name performers at his inauguration on January 20th and he doesn’t think the parties should be over the top.
Final results also reveal that despite early claims of historically low turnout, the number of raw votes cast in the 2016 presidential election – 136,628,459 – is actually the highest total ever.
In a Pew Research Center study conducted in the two weeks leading up to the election, majorities of Trump supporters said things had declined in all seven areas the poll surveyed, with almost nine in 10 saying America’s standing in the world had declined and seven in 10 saying the job situation in the country had deteriorated.
The effort to dry gulch Trump was sponsored largely by Democrats who were asking Trump electors to vote for Hillary.
For an example, look to the popular mass media, which was so unable to understand why someone would vote for Trump that it ignored signs pointing to his victory. “For instance, getting rid of the carried interest loophole, changing our trade laws dramatically, a large infrastructure bill”. “I’ve seen arguments breaking out in the middle of the street”.
G is for “grab ’em by the …”, a phrase the American public will be trying desperately, and we fear in vain, to erase from our collective memories.
At hundreds of campaign stops, in debates against Bernie Sanders, then against Trump himself, she repeated these promises over and over again, but in light of the “gravest existential threat since the end of the Soviet Union”, she seems to have little to say or do about Trump at all.
Trump won because he out worked, out smarted and out messaged Hillary Clinton.
