The Exorcist director is not happy about an Exorcist remake
The Exorcist is the latest Hollywood classic to be graced with a remake, but the original film’s director is not so pleased about the plans. “The Exorcist” though was not in the list as Morgan Creek Productions held to the remake rights of the 1973 William Freidkin classic.
Shortly after, Friedkin shared his thoughts on Twitter, saying that he though Morgan Creek had already done enough damage with the “sequels” (his quotation marks) to The Exorcist.
“I completely denounce [the remake]” the filmmaker tweeted, adding that he doesn’t believe Morgan Creek even has the rights to the original movie, just the lesser sequels.
However, Friedkin has come out in opposition to the remake.
“For the record, we will never attempt to remake “The Exorcist“, the post read. The American film studio would not only retain TV rights but also would maintain the privileges of a potential re-creation of a certain number of its key movie titles. Regardless, it’s a reassurance to know that won’t have to suffer through a modernized version of The Exorcist, and one of the finest horror movies ever made won’t be tampered with.
Morgan Creek is out there and they’re listening to you people.
The Exorcist starred Ellen Burstyn, Max von Sydow, Lee J. Cobb and Linda Blair, centering on a mother enlisting the help of two priests to get rid of a demonic presence that dwells inside her daughter.
