The Exorcist Remake Talk Downplayed
A common saying in Hollywood is “never say never” but, for now, it looks like The Exorcist will not be remade any time soon. Regardless, it’s a reassurance to know that won’t have to suffer through a modernized version of The Exorcist, and one of the finest horror movies ever made won’t be tampered with. Still, even if Morgan Creek does own the remake rights, and plan to retain them when and if their film catalog is sold, then it seems they don’t plan on putting the rights to use, at least for now.
In a conversation last week, Morgan Creek CEO Jim Robinson revealed that several popular titles from the studio’s back catalogue had resurfaced on its radar as potential remake candidates.
“The Exorcist” was infamous during its heyday as it was banned in certain towns and countries not just due to clamors from the Catholic church but because it was terrifyingly scary. Linda Blair had a break-out acting performance as the demonically possessed twelve-year-old daughter of the MacNeils as she spewed tons of vomit and spider-walked her way on the big screen.
The 1973 movie was a huge success, receiving 10 Academy Award nominations and winning two, and going on to establish itself as a movie classic.
Deadline’s report claims that Morgan Creek intend to remake “The Exorcist franchise”, although it is not yet clear if that includes Friedkin’s original or not.
