The Flash: Savitar Future Prophecy Unveiled
Would a Flash-forward in time imperil future lives – on the CW’s “The Flash”.
But it’s just going to be Barry, Cisco, Joe and the gang instead of everyone else getting in the mix, so it’ll be business as usual as season 3 continues to roll. But, in doing so, Barry was propelled five months into the future, where he saw Savitar kill Iris. Part of me even wondered if he was Future Barry, carrying with him a certain knowledge and attempting to lead his younger self down a smarter path than he ran. His training with HR seems to be complete by episode’s end (Yoda he’s not) and he’s even mixed it up with Savitar; his plot line with the Wests is pretty mundane but it has to move through the paces. One week after the massive four-part crossover event with Supergirl, Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow, there will be a sense of normalcy returning to Barry Allen and crew, albeit as normal as you can get in the DC universe. But this episode, while only our third with Shipp as Garrick, is the one where this really clicked, where it stopped being a (wonderful) piece of fan service, and where we got the real benefit of the whole concept. Barry is going to suffer a fate worse than death – after not only being betrayed by someone he trusts, but losing a person he loves.
Barry (Grant Gustin) and Cisco’s (Carlos Valdes) relationship was damaged when Caitlin revealed that Barry creating Flashpoint was the cause of Cisco’s brother’s death.
This NBC hit, one of the season’s more welcome surprises, wraps for its own Christmas vacation with an outing that finds the past-Pearsons back in the hospital for Christmas Eve.
There’s some changes to the team dynamic and maybe we can just be done with Julian now? Turns out, Julien had no idea he was also Doctor Alchemy, the conduit for Savitar.
As it seems, Dr. Alchemy’s husk villain is so risky that Barry needs another The Flash to help him battle the new threat to Central City. That’s now how we think it’ll go down, though. He’s been around so long and amassed so much power, he can seemingly travel to anywhere in the multiverse (not that it’s so hard for our heroes these days) but still needs someone to go first and prepare for his arrival. Why?
Iris’ potential death sets up some big stakes for the rest of the season.
Editor’s note: This post contains spoilers for the latest episode of The Flash!
Barry spoke to Jay about this dark future. When we finally got to see these two things I love combine past year, well, you can imagine my joy. Garrick says. “You need to focus on the here and now”. Could Barry manage to do whatever it takes in the present to secure Iris’ life? Barry then sneaks Iris away and shows her the huge apartment he purchased which he also signed a lease for under both of their names.
As previously mentioned, the episode wrapped up the Alchemy storyline. In addition to completing her Christmas shopping, Iris also found time to do some digging of her own and she learns every scientist on Julian’s expedition died except for him. In fact, Alchemy is barely a real villain, just a puppet for Savitar, who can only manifest himself when the stone is out of its protective box. Barry received help from another speedster to rid his earth of the threat of Savitar and Alchemy once and for all in the mid season finale.
What are your predictions for this week’s new episode of The Flash? The team give Wally his gift: his official Kid Flash uniform.
Anyway, HR warns Wally to not reveal his speed because “You do not trifle with the West household” – which should be the intro audio clip for Watch The Throne 2, should those nice boys ever become friends again. Merry Christmas, y’all. The back half of this season is gonna be insane fun. Hamill’s scene is a loving homage to the original series.
Will Iris actually die in the future?
What better way to stop that prophecy from coming true than to piggyback off Jay’s speed and chuck the box holding Savatar deep into the the Speed Force?
Up next: Flash is off for the holidays, but returns January 24, 2017.
