‘The Force Awakens’ Destroys Monday Box Office Record
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” destroyed box office records like the Death Star this weekend.
Based on a conservative total box office estimate of US$750 million in North America and US$2.25 billion worldwide, J.P. Morgan believes the film should produce well over US$1 billion in profits. He said: “Our sole focus has been creating a film that delivers that one-of-a-kind “Star Wars” experience, and director J.J. Abrams, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, and the Lucasfilm team have outdone themselves”.
Globally, JJ Abrams’ sequel has already made an estimated $517 million worldwide, though that is actually only the second-biggest opening in history.
And Harrison previously revealed he admires the never-ending enthusiasm of “Stars Wars” fans.
As far as all-time box office sales, two films by James Cameron hold the record – “Avatar” ($2.78 billion) and “Titanic” ($2.18 billion), and it is expected that “The Force Awakens” might unseat both. Internationally, Force Awakens earned another $41.7 million on Monday – including the biggest Monday ever in the U.K./Ireland ($8.8 million) and France ($4.4 million) – for a foreign cume of $322.7 million.
Its total was boosted by global sales of $279 million (£187 million), plus the option to see the film in IMAX, 3D and large screen options. Despite the dissent of many enraged Star Wars fans nitpicking every single action of every single scene of the film (just read the negative reviews on Metacritic), the latest episode is wonderful.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is poised to making it big.
Speaking at the European premiere of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” in London’s Leicester Square this week, he said: “I’m glad people are interested”.
“Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip” brought in $14.4 million dollars.
Also debuting at the box office in the top 10 this weekend were four other films, whose numbers seemed miniscule compared to the “Star Wars” hauling.
