The Great British Bake Off final whips up over 13 million viewers

Bookies’ favourite Nadiya Jamal Hussain carried off the Great British Bake Off prize in a finale watched by an estimated 14 million, producing flawless iced buns, towering mille feuilles and a showstopper lemon wedding cake with marshmallow icing and jewels and flower for decoration. Her stand was decorated in red, white and blue saree material. I’ve had the luxury of being at home to look after my children, but they’re all at school now and I thought, I’ve got to do something for me.
The 30-year-old from Leeds said: “I really hope that I have not become known more for my facial expressions or my eyebrows than my baking!”
“My best moment in the tent I think I would go back to bread week mainly because I was in my element.”, he said.
It was one of the closest finals in the history of the Great British Bake Off.
She stole the nation’s hearts and reduced Marry Berry to tears so it is any wonder Bake Off’s new champion, Nadiya Hussain, feels utterly exhausted? She undoubtedly beat the two boys into the ground in this final episode, with her three bakes being pretty much flawless.
Now Ian, Nadiya and Tamal will be baking for victory in tonight’s final, and according to British Gas there’s a power surge expected with 10 million viewers tuning in.
“He’s the full package for me”, she said before starting to cry.
After 10 weeks of challenges, the bakers have reached the final – where a bad bake begins to seem like a life-or-death situation.
But in between all the tears and celebrations we’re glad to say Nadiya hasn’t become lost in showbiz just yet and has been coming out with a few of that ‘Nadiya humour ‘we’d grown to love. “It’s nice to be just a viewer again”, she said.
“I think the show is a fantastic representation of British society today”, she said.
In the first round her iced buns proved a big hit with Paul saying: “Both of those tick the box”.
The stay-at-home mother celebrated her win on today’s BBC Breakfast where she revealed that her husband “forced” her to enter the culinary competition which has now changed her life.
