The Hunger Games Cast Raise Ebola Awareness
Jennifer Lawrence and her co-stars from ‘Hunger Games’ have united for the fight against Ebola. Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Mahershala Ali and Julianne Moore teamed up with organizers at the Ebola Survival Fund to raise awareness.
Ebola Survival Fund (ESF) is an organization that supports a coalition of community-based organizations in Liberia and Sierra Leone in order to complement the efforts of programs being implemented by international organizations. The cast shot a new Public Service Announcement (PSA) where the stars asserted that people should not worry about the virus impact in the US, instead focus must be on the poverty-stricken West Africa.
West Africa is facing a potentially deadly health battle, with the disease being most prolific and needing an immediate medical aid. The PSA video was produced by actor/activist Jeffrey Wright, who played Beetee in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Mockingjay Part I.
When Hutcherson asked Lawrence what she would do if she had Ebola, she replied that she’d be fine, because she has many doctors (in the U.S.). PSA threw light on vital Ebola related statistics. It revealed that out of the 19,648 confirmed cases of Ebola in the world, only 8 of those were American patients treated in US hospitals, and patients in Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone were the hardest hit with survival rate of just 20%. Wright is quite hopeful that the video will raise awareness for the Ebola outbreak.
The 24-year-old Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence also visited a children’s hospital in her hometown of Louisville, Kentucky, on Christmas Eve. The actress was recently named the year’s highest-grossing celebrity, topping the Forbes’ list with a total of $1.4 billion for her films Mockingjay and X-Men: Days of Future Past.
It is great when stars come together for a noble cause like this!
