The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 Movie Review
With bad pacing, unimpressive action scenes, and an underwhelming outcome, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 brings the blockbuster franchise to a lackluster end.
In just a portion of a night late Thursday, “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2” has opened up in previews to an astronomical $16 million at the box office, with much more the following day on Friday.
As of now, “Mockingjay – Part 2” is expected to finish the weekend with around $300 million worldwide, with the US movie goers contributing $120 million to $150 million.
The success of the “Hunger Games” films has propelled her to meaty roles in films including “American Hustle” and “Silver Linings Playbook”, which earned her a best actress Oscar in 2013.
Do watch it at the movies though – it should at least be experienced on a big screen.
“There’s no “Hunger Games” without Katniss”.
Still, the finale to the “Hunger Games” series is unlikely to reach the box office achievements of the first two installments, “The Hunger Games” and “Catching Fire”, which debuted with $152.5 million and $158 million, respectively. Underground, however, is just as unsafe, especially when mutants with huge, razor teeth try to feast on Katniss and her buddies as they near the finish line. Part 2 has earned $43 million so far worldwide.
Full disclosure, I was not a fan of the final book, and I was pretty lukewarm on the previous movie, “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1”. Katniss, along with her friends Peeta (Hutcherson), Gale (Hemsworth), Cressida (Dormer), and Finnick (Claflin) are assigned to a special team that is given the ultimate mission of attacking Snow’s mansion.
Mockingjay Part 2 wraps up the story of Katniss Everdeen and the rebellion of the citizens of Panem against the Capitol. Their journey to Snow’s front door is the film’ highlight, as they must make it through streets filled with deadly booby traps.
Speaking with EW, director Francis Lawrence shared his idea of a possible prequel, expressing his interest in seeing that world before it crumbled into a dystopian state.
