The Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 2 Review: Disappointing? Why It’s The Worst
While the Oscar winning actress has played one of the leads in all the previous instalments, the upcoming film will draw the curtain on the “Hunger Games” series. We outlined the five biggest differences between the book and the film (major spoilers for both the book and movie follow, obviously).
Mockingjay Part 2 wraps up the story of Katniss Everdeen and the rebellion of the citizens of Panem against the Capitol. I hadn’t felt it during any of the other films either, but the only reason it didn’t kill the movie for me was because I didn’t feel much chemistry between Katniss and Peeta when I read the books either (please don’t kill me). But does she really want him?
“It’s amusing, we develop these characters and a few months later we never see them again”, she says.
“I guess I’m used to that”.
Lawrence has had a series of ends with Katniss. Yet even diehard fans (among whom I count myself) may be left simultaneously longing for something more and less. A year later, she had to return to the role for an additional scene that has a special place in her heart because she got to work with her two nephews. Director Francis Lawrence has shown he can handle action a lot better than the original Hunger Games director Gary Ross could. In addition those accomplishments, the director notes, the movies’ imagery and spirit of resistance have also galvanized real people fighting for very real causes, from Ferguson, MO.to Bangkok, Thailand.
She’s particularly proud of playing such a strong female. Subsequently her loss isn’t the gut punch it should be, either to the audience or to Katniss. Despite these numbers, this could still be the lowest opening for a Hunger Games film. The film tells the story of three friends who reunite for their traditional Christmas Eve gathering. It’s sometimes hard to equate Lawrence with such a character considering her bevy of work in the recent years from “Winter’s Bone” to “Silver Linings Playbook”, but it works. She’s stuck between her past with poor Peeta and a future with gloomy Gale while presently being the moody Mockingjay, an overblown symbol of a revolution that doesn’t need her much.
“And I think it all goes to his head a little bit and he loses sight of his own values”. “That’s the only point of view I have”, Lawrence says.
Be part of it. Catching Fire not only made the record books but also brought the best movie in the franchise.
