The Internet is mourning Tillman, the celebrity skateboarding bulldog
“I’m sorry to announce the world lost a true legend”, read a post on Tillman’s official Facebook page Wednesday night.
A celebrity dog has died. “We spent 10 years making so many incredible memories skating, surfing and hanging out together”, Davis wrote of his friend.
Apple used the original 2007 video of Tillman skateboarding in Venice Beach, California, for an iPhone advert. No words can truly describe how much he’ll be missed. Tillman, who became an online sensation after a video of him riding a skateboard went viral on YouTube, died from a heart muscle disease on October 27th.
“Tillman’s a freak”, Davis told VICE previous year in a profile of Tillman. “Thanks for all the good times, Tilly”. But a bulldog named Tillman had a different way to get his name into the record books: He was a skateboarder until he passed away on Tuesday at age 10. For one, Tillman was multi-talented.
Recognised for his light brown coat, white face and white chest, Tillman also appeared in the Hallmark channel’s reality television series “Who Let the Dogs Out”.
According to Davis, Tillman couldn’t do many other tricks, shunning stunts like rolling over. In 2009, Tillman skated more than 100 meters within 20 seconds, which earned him the Guinness World Record as the world’s fastest skateboarding dog. Even so, it took hundreds of hours of training for him to master it, Davis said.
