The iPhone 7 is just fine, even if it doesn’t wow

He confesses that Apple is still playing catch up to Samsung, but it’s worth the upgrade – especially if your current phone is two years or older. There are so many things to consider. This is quite simply the most sophisticated camera and image processor pairing ever seen in a smartphone or any camera period.

Before you scoff, that’s not me telling you that. In my use, the iPhone 7 Plus could have lasted into the next morning if needed.

I believe that it’s possible Apple adopts USB Type-C in the future, maybe even as early as the 2017 iPhone, which would actually be adopting a technology that looks to be heading to near-universal adoption. The wider camera, at 28mm, is basically the same you’ll find in the iPhone 7. Apple has now made the facility available from within their camera application without compromising the camera zooming out like in other normal PTS cameras or DSLRs for that fact. Here are my average user’s thoughts.

If you are a big photography fan, the iPhone 7 Plus and its dual lens set-up is pretty impressive. One can switch between lenses with a tap for different magnification. In theory, it means it can be submerged in up to a metre of water for up to half an hour. I had a good time placing the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus under running water and dropping them into water-filled containers and sinks. It survived and so have I, although I am no way recommending you do this yourself.

Once my phone stops working, as Apple products tend to suspiciously do, I will get an Android phone.

The battery is better. Great for people like me who forget to charge overnight.

Despite the added memory, improved battery life, better camera, brighter screen, stereo speakers and other improvements to the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, reviewers are conflicted on whether to forgive Tim Cook and Apple (AAPL) for removing the headphone jack. There’s also an adaptor in the box for other headphones, although it’s titchy about the size of my little finger. The firm also gave me a SIM card to use while reviewing the devices.

As far as weight and width, the phones feel about the same as their predecessors, though you can tell they’re a hair lighter if you directly compare the new phones to the old ones. Stick them back in and the audio starts.

Unfortunately, the very thing that makes this such a covetable gadget could also be its downfall. Yes, I can be that disorganised. Because the AirPods are so minimalist, there are hardly any controls on them.

The new iPhones go on sale in New Zealand this Friday, with a starting price of $1119 for the iPhone 7 and $1429 for the iPhone 7 Plus. Under the iPhone Upgrade Program, if they get the iPhone 7 late this year, they would have to wait longer next year for the iPhone 8 too, unless they want to pay extra. But the question of whether or not other manufacturers will follow suit after Apple’s decision is a valid one, because Apple’s a company that makes other companies do insane things, too. Apple introduced a new product to replace the hassle of wired earbuds, making the lack of auxiliary port a non-issue.
