The iTunes Terms & Conditions as Graphic Novels Starring Steve Jobs [Comic]
Now’s the time to find out, as artist R. Sikoryak has turned Apple’s iTunes Terms and Conditions into a four-part graphic novel, turning each boring, necessary statement into a comic panel.
“As is my want, I was looking for the most absurd thing to adapt”, Sikoryak tells As it Happens host Carol Off. “It’s famously a joke that it’s very long”.
And we all know that with the exception of Apple’s legal team, virtually no one actually reads the T&C-which in the case of iTunes consists of 21,000 words of fine print legalese spread out over a whopping 57 pages. So is Robert Sikoryak, who’s made a graphic novel out of the corporately mandated agreement, riffing off comics greats like Frank Miller and Charles Schulz. There’s a reason why “I have read and agree to the terms and conditions” is the biggest lie on the Internet.
Star of Sikoryak’s adaptation of the legal document is none other than Steve Jobs himself.
The design of the pages is a knowing nod to the works created by iconic comic-book artists like Hergé and Cathy, as well as to the style seen in classic Marvel and DC adventure stories.
Robert Sikoryak is an illustrator who can completely emulate the styles of comic book cartoons and has become famed for his reinterpretations of classic literature into comics. Sikoryak said he wanted to have a complete work before he began posting everyday on Tumblr.
