The Kobo Aura One is the Greatest E-Reader Ever
When we talk about ebook readers (aka e-readers), the name of Kindle comes to mind instantaneously.
Like other e-readers, the Aura One has adjustable text sizes and customisable font types – 50 and 11 respectively to choose from.
A new user interface also offers customised book recommendations, based on your feedback and interests.
And in what seems like a throwaway line – it’s also waterproof, so no matter where you love to read, you’re covered. The blue light filter works similarly to Night Shift on iOS, which makes the screen’s color temperature warmer to reduce eye strain. Despite that, it measures just 195.1×138.5×6.9mm and weighs 226g, barely larger than the company’s previous Aura H2O.
“Those who like the size of a hardcover book with spacious pages will enjoy reading on the largest premium Carta E Ink touchscreen now available on the market, with 300 ppi for print-quality resolution”, says the company, which notes that it “allows for an enjoyable reading experience with more words to a page, which means fewer page turns”. If you’re like me and like to use your devices before bed but find you have a hard time falling asleep, the Aura One may be the ticket. This means that with the Kobo Aura One, you’re getting more screen without all the extra weight. The Aura One can detect ambient light and adjust brightness accordingly.
Check out a behind the scenes look at the process the company went through to design and create the Kobo Aura ONE. You can tap on the sides or swipe to turn pages. The last reader that Kobo made so water resistant is the Aura H20, which was an IP67 rating.
Rakuten, Kobo’s parent company, acquired Overdrive a year ago which has deep connections with the e-book lending programs all over the country.
Tech review sites are already praising Kobo’s newest e-reader‚ the Aura ONE‚ which it revealed at Toronto’s Koerner Hall on August 17.
The Kobo Aura One is much more pricier than the Paperwhite pegged at around $230. It will be available for purchase from September 6 in the United States and Canada for $229 (roughly Rs. 15,300) and $249 (roughly Rs. 16,600) respectively and will also be released for a host of European countries on the same day.
