The Latest in Texas deaths: DA: Woman texted mom from house

David Conley is charged with capital murder in the fatal shootings of eight at his former home Saturday. While the call was being placed, deputies surrounded the home, and they spotted the body of a juvenile through a window.

Authorities say Conley had a previous relationship with a woman in the household, and that one of the children killed may have been his own son. They say one or two of the children may be Conley’s. Authorities said in such cases, one capital murder count includes multiple deaths.

Neighbors of a family fatally shot in their Houston home say they knew about problems in the household, including a history of prior police visits and a lack of supervision of children.

David Conley was being held Sunday in Harris County Jail. He is being held without bond in the Harris County Texas jail.

“They would play ball over here”, Sysongkim said, adding that on a normal Sunday, she expected to hear the kids playing in the street.

The area around the home was still cordoned off Sunday morning, with sheriff’s deputies coming in and out of the house and the medical examiner’s office having arrived at the scene.

It was about 11 p.m. Saturday night – after hours of anguish and police visits that had turned up nothing – when Valerie Jackson’s brother finally got David R. Conley on a cellphone.

After authorities discovered that Conley, who had as soon as lived within the house, had a warrant for his arrest for an assault cost, the sheriff’s workplace Excessive Danger Operations Unit was referred to as. Valerie Jackson had her first two children with Conley and five other children with Dwayne Jackson.

“While awaiting response for the (unit), the body of an unidentified child was observed through a window at the residence”, said Harris County Chief Deputy Tim Cannon.

“It’s obvious that he had some distaste for what was going on within his personal life and within his family life, and we believe that is was led to the tragedy”, Cannon said.

A suspect in the killing of eight people in Texas broke into the house and handcuffed the victims in their bedrooms before he shot them, authorities said.

His girlfriend then reportedly grabbed the belt out of Conley’s hands and that’s when he allegedly pushed her head against the refrigerator. Jackson had accused him of cutting her neck and punching her in the face, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Four deputies then forced their way into the home, prompting the 49-year-old male suspect inside to begin shooting.

He was also sentenced to nine months in prison for threatening Jackson with a knife in April 2013.

In 2013, Conley was charged with aggravated assault for threatening Jackson with a knife.
