The Martian shown to astronauts in space
In an attempt to keep experts on the space ship entertained, NASA has provided ISS astronauts with Matt Damon’s latest movie, “Martian“.
As mankind comes closer to taking its first steps on the Red Planet, authors’ depictions of the experience have become more realistic.”The key difference between Earth and Mars is that Mars’ atmospheric pressure is a lot less”.
NASA’s best guess is now that it will be able to send humans to Mars in the 2030s.
NASA chiefs have heralded progress towards sending humans to the Red Planet, and expect the first manned mission to take place in the 2030s, writes Ed Mazza for The Huffington Post.
As the space mission of Kelly and his other Russian colleagues may contribute to the future human mission to Mars, he mentioned in a tweet how a movie about Mars may have a significant impact on them.
The astronauts have a habit of watching space disaster flicks.
Earlier this year, the Red Planet sparked extraordinary interest among scientists when NASA’s “Opportunity” rover detected a unique combination of rocks vividly apparent on its surface that seemed markedly different from the otherwise familiar rock formations previously encountered. The experiment will be used to pull carbon dioxide from Mars’ thin atmosphere and turn it into oxygen and carbon monoxide.
Of course, there is still a chance that NASA could launch before April 2023 but that will be a matter of how efficiently they can develop the spacecraft. “The Martian” shows the struggles of astronaut Mark Watney who gets left behind all alone on Mars and has to survive any way if he wants to make it back home. That is why Bolden said he has no doubt the mission will be accomplished very soon.
The challenge is to create an innovative solution for slowing NASA’s massive payload with inflatable spacecraft heat or Hypersonic Inflatable Aerodynamic Decelerator (HIAD) technology. “A crewed spacecraft landing on Mars would weigh between 15 and 30 tons”.
The agency has asked interested teams of three to five graduate students and/or undergraduate to submit white papers describing their concepts in two months. According to Lindgren, they both enjoyed the story and expressed their desire to watch the movie adaptation once it has been released.
