The More Powerful PlayStation Neo Has A Release Date
Thank goodness that E3 is all done and dusted, the most hellishly busy time of year in the gaming calendar.
According to Neuro Gadget, GPU floating point operations per second will see Xbox Scorpio overwhelm PS4 Neo by offering 6TFLOPS (6 trillion floating point operations per second) against 4.14TFLOPS. It also ditched the Greek setting for one focused on Norse mythology.
The people over at Brandwatch analysed social media activity during and after each E3 conference this year from EA, Bethesda, Microsoft, Sony, Ubisoft, and Nintendo (even though Nintendo’s wasn’t really an official E3 presentation) and it looks like Microsoft was the biggest hit, garnering 30% of social media mentions. It will also come boxed with a vertical stand for those that want to stand the console upright, and it comes with an all-new Xbox wireless controller with a few minor improvements over the old one.
But then Sony blew everyone’s expectations out of the water later that night, once again proving that the PlayStation 4 is the hipper console heading into the holiday season.
When that happens, up to three versions of the Xbox One could be available to purchase, providing something for a range of budgets. Microsoft too shared a number of great gaming items. In the website’s analysis, it was revealed that the upcoming console will be 40 percent faster than the PS4K Neo. In other words, this new console will be released before Microsoft’s Project Scorpio.
Best of all, the perennially delayed Last Guardian will finally arrive on October 25 – seven years since its first announcement.
While blockbuster titles tailored for consoles or personal computers remained stars of the annual show, an evolving face of play and its growing reach into Internet lifestyles were evident.
Six teraflops of raw computing performance make this console an ideal machine for intense graphics.
Major publisher Electronic Arts eschewed E3 floor space this year to host its own off-site public event earlier in the week.
Instead, Nintendo’s E3 2016 was all about the new Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, an exciting, sprawling open-world adventure that could be the game of the show. Previous year it hired Mass Effect director Casey Hudson to create experiences for the HoloLens and used the headset to stream Halo 5 gameplay, but it’s unclear if it will ever launch a cheaper version of the $3,000 device as an Xbox accessory.
But with all the gaming and entertainment purchases I already have planned for 2017, I’ll likely be playing it on the inferior Wii U.
Here’s what we thought of the big news out of E3, North America’s largest video game industry showcase. However, the newer console will experience a memory bandwidth bump of up to 218GB/s.
The rest of the E3 press conferences were entertaining, though lacking in any “ah-ha” moments. And with games changing quickly, it makes sense to move faster. “I say it because I know it’s not years away, it’s more like months away, but we don’t have an exact date yet”.
It’s a burden I’m more than willing to bear.
