The NFL really wants to stay in St. Louis
The St. Louis board of aldermen voted 17-10 to approve the Rams stadium subsidy package yesterday, which normally should have been the big news, since that means it will have the 15 votes needed for final passage on Friday. And with Rams owner Stan Kroenke seeking the approval of 23 other owners to move to Los Angeles, all it takes is nine owners thinking the St. Louis plan sounds good for Kroenke to lose out on the approval he seeks.
The plan to keep the Rams in St. Louis calls for a city funded backing of $150 million for the $1.1 billion project.
Goodell further added that the premise that the league has committed $300 million to the stadium proposal “is fundamentally inconsistent with the NFL’s program of stadium financing”.
A local sports economist isn’t sure what to make of NFL commissioner Roger Goodell sending a letter to St. Louis this week, accusing the local stadium task force of inflating the amount that the league would contribute toward a new football field.
“We have received input from a lot of parties”, he told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Carson has already shown the Chargers and Raiders all the amenities they have planned for their stadium with a slick promo video narrated by Kiefer Sutherland himself.
Today’s vote by the St. Louis Board of Aldermen is scheduled for 3 p.m. Robles was not very specific on what the Carson of his dreams looks like, but says the city would work with investors and planners to create “tremendous projects that are compatible with the stadium”. It is important to remember that, if the proposal is passed on Friday, it will still require approval by the NFL. We have the votes and we’re moving forward. “It has been challenging at times to determine what input we should follow”.
The December 30th deadline set by the National Football League has lit a fire under St Louis to get a final proposal formulated that they can present for National Football League review. Major League Soccer officials have also expressed interest in perhaps expanding to St. Louis if the new stadium is built.
