The Nintendo Switch is getting its first Pokémon game
Not many details have been released on what makes these two different from their first iterations, other than it’s an alternate version of Alola with new wild and legendary Pokemon. Hopefully these are the swan song for Pokemon on 3DS though, as I really want to see what this franchise can do on Switch.
It’s not quite official, but as a sharp Twitter user pointed out, the Official Pokemon Company press site has a listing for Ultra Sun and Moon to be released on the Nintendo Switch. There’s a chance Nintendo is simply saving it for E3 2017, but with the Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon announcement, we aren’t getting our hopes up. The idea of a main-line Pokemon title on the Nintendo Switch’s been part of that console’s rumor mill since day one, if not earlier. Like all recent pairs of Pokemon games, these will hit the stores simultaneously on November 17th. The announcement of Pokemon Star could be very close, as reported by a NeoGAF user who claims to be working on the western localization of the game.
Watch Tuesday’s “Pokemon Direct” in its entirety in the video below. Just like with the Pokemon Red and Blue Virtual Console re-releases, these versions will be compatible with the Pokemon Bank app.
Lastly Pokemon Gold and Silver were announced for the 3DS Virtual console. These will be enhanced versions of last year’s Pokemon Sun and Moon sporting a new storyline, seemingly better graphics, and new pokemon.
Pokemon is a video game series that has always belonged on the handheld.
First up? Pokken Tournament DX, arriving on the Switch and the Wii U September 22nd. The games will include new areas to explore, new Pokemon that weren’t in the original games, and new designs for Solgaleo and Lunaala, which appear to have been melded with the Ultra Beast known as Necrozma.
