The Obvious Reason ‘Logan’ Didn’t Have Post-Credits Scene
In a conversation with the Toronto Sun, Mangold offers an explanation for why the last Wolverine movie didn’t set anything up for, say, the Dark Phoenix storyline that will be told in the next X-Men movie. Gone are the black jumpsuits and supersonic jets.
Basically, it’s a combination of wanting Logan to stand on its own terms (which we suspected) and sheer irritation at everyone assuming he had to include one. We’ve seen footage from ADR recording sessions many times before in behind-the-scenes featurettes and documentaries, but usually in the context of a dialogue-focused scene. Logan must take her to a place safe for their kind, a place that may or may not exist. “I really liked Patrick Stewart at Professor X as always, so I hope he continues being in movies, especially more X-Men movies, if possible”. The 48-year-old played the role of Marvel Comics superhero in nine films over the period of 17 long years. Grim, gritty and genre-bending, director James Mangold made sure that Jackman’s final Wolverine solo would end with a bang – both in the box-office and in the actual film.
Although X-Men fans might’ve been hoping to get a few extra seconds of mutant action after Logan’s credits rolled, the new film does not feature any type of mid- or post-credits sequence. Fox got the message past year, when its daring R-rated Deadpool broke box-office records and its rather rote X-Men: Apocalypse underperformed. How he wields his iron claws one last time forms the rest of the story.
In the movie it is shown that Logan is not the same as he used to be as the adamantium in his body has started to poison him from the inside further killing him slowly.
Logan isn’t going to be your feel good summer blockbuster style superhero movie, but it is an outstanding movie. It’s not concerned with sequels, merchandising – or continuity, for that matter. It’s not riddled with explosions or an end-of-the-world plot.
“It is an interesting progression for these superhero movies that they can have these superhero traits, characteristics or powers, but then also (remain) rooted in being human”, he said.
