The Oscars 2015 Highlights
The 87th Annual Academy Awards was held at Dolby Theatre, Hollywood on Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015. The mega event kicked off with a song and dance sequence by host Neil Patrick Harris along with Jack Black and Anna Kendrick.
The ceremony dished out the first award for the Best Actor in a Supporting Role. The winner was J.K. Simmons for Whiplash. Adam Levine, shortly thereafter, belted out the Oscar nominated Lost Stars (nominated in the Best Original Song category). The Grand Budapest Hotel won several awards in Costume Design, Best Production Design, best makeup and hairstyling and Best Original Score categories. Best Foreign Film winner was black and white period film from Poland, Ida.
With the next musical performance, The Lego Movie came alive. Tegan & Sara were joined by The Lonely Island for an amazing, Lego-themed performance of Everything Is Awesome.
Tim McGraw was introduced by Gwyneth Paltrow. He sang Glen Campbell’s Oscar nominated song I’m Not Gonna Miss You. This heartbreaking song was written by the country music legend for his family while he is battling with Alzheimer’s disease.
The award for the Best Actress in a Supporting Role went to Patricia Arquette for her role in Boyhood. It took an astounding 12 years to make the film. Meryl Streep and Jennifer Lopez cheered for the actress as she delivered her acceptance speech and spoke on “equal rights for all”.
Rita Ora sang Grateful from the film Beyond the Lights. The best Animated Featured Film went to Big Hero 6. The trophy for Best Documentary Feature, went to the film Citizenfour.
Common and John Legend gave an emotional performance of their hit track “Glory” from Selma. Th song went on to win the Oscar for Best Original Song. Newly engaged Lady Gaga paid tribute to The Sound of Music.
Iñárritu won the Best Director award for Birdman. Eddie Redmayne won the Best Actor awardfor The Theory of Everything. The Best Actress trophy went to Julianne Moore for Still Alice. Birdman won the Best Picture trophy.
