The Oscars screwed up because ‘they were focused so hard on politics’
Trump told Breitbart in an interview published Monday that the Oscars ceremony on Sunday night made its final gaffe – at first giving best picture to the wrong movie, “La La Land”, instead of rightful victor “Moonlight” – because it was too busy commenting on politics. After all, the nation seems more divided than ever, and Hollywood stars, who are overwhelmingly liberal, have been vocal opponents of many of President Trump’s policies (to say nothing of his opinion about Meryl Streep). “It was a little sad”.
Accepting their awards, actors, directors and other people from the media industry took a jab at Donald Trump, promoting diversity and inclusiveness. Speaking on the red carpet about the foreign Oscars nominees who had been banned from the ceremony, Lion actor Dev Patel told Sky: “We are here and we’re talking about a film that is about unification, so that makes me happy”.
“We’re going to have it fixed, and we’re going to repeal and replace, and I think you’re going to see something very special”. “I mean remember when previous year it seemed like the Oscars were racist”, joked Kimmel.
Numerous ceremony’s presenters and its host, Jimmy Kimmel, dedicated their time on stage at the Oscars to poking fun at and denouncing Mr Trump and his polices.
Hopes were high after a hit-and-miss opening monologue from host Jimmy Kimmel that skewered Trump.
For context, this isn’t the first year that Trump, a former owner of the Miss Universe Organization, has entertained very specific opinions about the Oscars; This is merely the first year that we’ve had to hear his armchair criticisms from the Oval Office.
The mishap occurred becuase the wrong envelope was handed to the Best Picture award announcers Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway. “That’s gone, thanks to him!” Apparently, the award was meant for Moonlight but was announced for La La Land instead.
Breitbart, one of several news outlets favored by America’s white nationalist extremist fringe, said the comments came in a lengthy interview covering health care, tax cuts, immigration and a variety of other topics.
“I’m sorry I’m not with you tonight”, he said in a statement read onstage by Iranian engineer Anousheh Ansari.
