The Price for the Oculus Rift Virtual Reality Headset: $599
The only confusion is with the Touch Controllers, which the founder of Oculus, Palmer Luckey stated would be available along with VR headset. And people are not quite happy about the price tag, as some say that it is a ridiculous price.
As much as it costs, though, Oculus Rift is supposed to offer up the most immersive and comprehensive virtual reality experience we’ve yet to see. A number of those who were closely following and anticipating the Rift’s release have expressed disappointment at the price.
You can pre-order your Oculus Rift for $599 at shop.oculus.com and we’ll be shipping at the end of March to 20 countries initially.
Pre-orders are going so fast that the expected ship date for new customers is now May 2016. Since then, several Oculus Rift prototypes made for developers have been released, but this is the first commercial version to go on sale. Consumers can wait until February to buy a headset/PC bundle for $1,499 or get the headset today and tack on the $900 PC later, according to the company website. “And before we open Rift pre-orders to the world, we wanted to share one more special update with you, our Kickstarter community”, reads an update on the Kickstarter page.
Also, since it is are being sent from the United States, you’ll need to pay GST and a tariff. Oculus has set up a certification program so consumers can look for a sticker on PCs that support the Rift. In addition, it also comes with two games: Eve: Valkyrie and Lucky’s Tale. These include Minecraft, a Rockband game by Harmonix, Edge of Nowhere by Insomniac, and The Climb by Crytek.
