The Pro-Israel, Pro-Iran Deal Position Explored
Kerry told the Council on Foreign Relations think tank in New York that “we have to change the dynamic in Syria” to kill off radical Islamic State, which has declared a caliphate in swathes of territory it has seized in Syria and Iraq.
“[E]ven if this deal narrowly avoids congressional defeat because we can’t get to that veto-proof majority, the Iranian regime and the world should know that this deal is your deal with Iran, meaning your’s and this administration’s, and the next president is under no legal or moral obligation to live up to it”.
“So the inspection entity that we’re relying upon to find out whether Iran is cheating, we’re not even going to have access to that agreement“, said Senator Corker. Those agency representatives told the lawmakers the that two secret side deals covered how the IAEA would be able to inspect the Parchin military complex and how the IAEA and Iran would resolve concerns about the possible military dimensions of Iran’s nuclear program. Not only would it lead to the collapse of the global economic sanctions that forced Tehran to the bargaining table, it would also accelerate Iran’s drive to build a bomb.
Asked if he pressed the Iranians to stop calling for the destruction of Israel, Kerry said he did.
However, there is a different feeling about the impact of the agreement with Iran on Israel: Americans are more likely to agree with Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Israel with be less safe because of the agreement than to think the opposite.
Lauer does point out to Kerry that opposition to the Iran deal encompasses practically the whole Israeli political spectrum.
He said it would allow Iran to obtain nuclear weapons in another 10 to 15 years if it abides by the deal and sooner if it breaches the agreement’s provisions. In fact, the leader of the 2009 Green Movement, Mir Hossein Mousavi, argued that President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was making too many concessions to the West regarding Iran’s nuclear rights.
The declaration that Israel will not be committed to the agreement is unnecessary, and many even see it as ridiculous.
Kerry said the US Government is going to continue to press Iran for information about the missing American, about the immediate release of Americans who have been unjustly held.
While the current deal aims to reverse all those “injustices”, the geopolitical considerations are clearly at work again.
“By and large our two intelligence communities, the Israeli enterprise and we, are pretty much in agreement on Iran’s capabilities and intentions”, Clapper said. “‘Come negotiate with us.’ ‘Oh Can you deliver?’ Please”.
On Thursday, during a heated Senate hearing, Secretary of State John Kerry said there was no “fantasy” alternative to the current deal. These were part of 18 documents the White House provided to Congress as required under legislation passed this spring that gives Congress 60 days to review the Iran deal.
