The Refugee Screening Process Explained
Myth: 70% of the Syrian refugees coming to the United States are young, single, adult men.
Christian Syrians that would like to be able to seek asylum in the USA other countries are often not any better off in refugee camps than in their war-torn country.
“In the wake of the horrific attacks In Paris, effective immediately, I am directing all state agencies to suspend the resettlement of additional Syrian refugees In the state of In pending assurances from the federal government that proper security measures have been achieved”, Pence said In a statement.
After two years of fingerprinting, interviews and database crosschecks, the State Department reported less than a tenth of all of the referred Syrian refugees have been accepted into the United States.
Gov. Greg Abbott is one of more than two dozen mostly Republican governors who have voiced opposition to resettling Syrian refugees in their states. His administration tried to convince U.S. House members that the refugee screening process was sufficient, and Obama began entertaining a U.S. Senate proposal to deny visa waivers to recent visitors to Iraq and Syria.
But the growing movement to keep Syrian refugees out is more than just flawed foreign policy, it’s a red flag signaling the start of a slippery slope marked by fear and ignorance.
According to Vox, more than half of the nation’s governors said they oppose letting Syrian refugees into their states. That was after the state’s governor and Congressional delegation all requested a suspension of the refugee resettlement program until they are assured that a comprehensive vetting process is in place. On a conference call with 33 other governors last week, I urged Obama administration leadership to look for ways to involve states in resettlement, so that states can have confidence in the reliability of the resettlement process.
“The bill requires the nation’s top security officials – the Secretary of Homeland Security, the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Director of National Intelligence – to certify before admitting any Syrian or Iraqi refugee into the United States that the individual does not represent a security threat”, McCaul said. This shows a lack of understanding for the intense screening that every refugee to the USA must undergo. “We want to help the victims of terrorism in the Middle East, not punish them”, Leith Anderson, president of the National Association of Evangelicals (NAE), wrote on the organization’s website this week.
Roughly 2,200 Syrian refugees have been allowed in over the last four years.
Since there’s no way to figure out which refugees are people displaced by ISIS and which refugees are ISIS fighters trying to get into foreign countries, the rest of the Muslim world has turned their back on Syrians. Countries that join the program, which is administered under the Homeland Security Department, share law enforcement and security-related data with the United States to maintain security standards. “So we know that they aspire to do that”.
