The Register Citizen: Keith Olbermann’s show on ESPN to end this month
Brown-Getty Images BEVERLY HILLS, CA – JULY 24: TV Personality Keith Olbermann speaks onstage during the Olbermann panel at the ESPN portion of the 2013 Summer Television Critics Association tour at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on July 24, 2013 in Beverly Hills, California.
Olbermann was an anchor on “SportsCenter” from 1992 to 1997, helping to increase the popularity of the sports-roundup show.
Keith Olbermann and ESPN are parting ways again.
His show “Olbermann” aired weekdays on ESPN2. It provided no details or further explanation for the program’s cancellation, but wished him “nothing but the best”.
The network confirmed on Wednesday that it has made a decision to “move in another direction” and that the commentator’s ESPN2 show Olbermann will “conclude sometime this month”.
Notes the U.S. Today blog For the Win, “ESPN appears to be moving away from high-priced talent who can be inflammatory, as this decision follows the much-talked-about move by the network to not renew the contract of former Grantland editor Bill Simmons”. THR noted that the outspoken anchor has been highly critical of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, whose league’s games are featured on ESPN’s “Monday Night Football”.
