The remarkable inconsistency of Trump’s attacks on the media
It was a declaration of war. “It’s fake, phony, fake”. “There’s no doubt that our state and our nation indeed are in disrepair when it comes to infrastructure needs but I don’t think it’s a need to pour more money into these agencies”, Few said about Trump’s calls for major infrastructure spending.
Trump said he is not “against the media”, and “there are some great reporters around”, but there are also “terrible, dishonest people” in the business.
Trump has been a semi-regular participant at CPAC, and told an adoring audience on Friday that he would be there every year during his presidency. “I’ll be doing this with CPAC whenever I can”. To make matters worse for liberals, he’s already made progress, or already delivered, on some of those promises.
In the Washington Post, Chris Callizza wrote that, “Bannon doesn’t want to change the media”. Another accused the president of being “totally obsessed with the media”.
Charter, 22, said that the gag was meant to mock Trump’s admiration of Russian President Vladimir Putin and highlight concerns about Trump administration ties to Russia.
HARI SREENIVASAN: And you also saw a relatively consistent message of the media being the opposition, something that the president has been tweeting and several of his advisers have been saying.
The White House also deploys anonymity from time to time. The animosity level this time around – on both sides – is in the unhealthy zone.
Attendees loved Trump’s strongman approach as he promised to rebuild the military and take on terrorism.
Their immediate future isn’t quite clear, but this isn’t the final statement for Americans Take Action.
“It’s time for all Americans to get off welfare and get back to work. you;re going to love it”, he said. And I’m pretty sure he’s not alone. Referring to the security agents present at any presidential appearance, he added: “You have Secret Service out here, and I’d expect [the meeting hall] to be fully screened. They have no sources, they just make them up when there are none”, Trump said.
That’s interesting since Donald Trump is no stranger to anonymous sources.
Trump didn’t expand on what he had in mind or which news organizations he was talking about. But the only PR he seemed interested in discussing involved his self-proclaimed robust sex life, including the incredibly fake news that he stole a woman from Mick Jagger. Lock her up!’ after Trump alluded to Hillary Clinton. These are unbelievable people who have not been treated fairly. He posited that Trump’s announcement withdrawing from the Trans-Pacific Partnership was “one of the most pivotal moments in modern American history”.
Some analysts said Trump’s constant attacks on the press are created to undermine the public’s faith in institutions in general and the media in particular, as well as to generate doubt about negative stories regarding the administration. “They shouldn’t be allowed to use sources unless they use somebody’s name”. It just doesn’t happen that way.
“Are we entering a new era?” That’s not so much of a concern for people on the right.
