‘The Revenant’ leads Oscar nominations with 12 nods
What a day. What a (mostly) lovely day!
This year’s Oscar nominations are in.

The 20-year-old actress, who starred in the film as Cheedo the Fragile, took to Twitter after hearing just how many nominations the film received.
“I’ve got something a bit smaller before we go back out into the wasteland – something that’s contemporary that we can get through fairly quickly”, said Miller to Entertainment Weekly last week. “And something with not too much technical difficulty”.
Tom Hardy appears as road warrior Max Rockatansky in a scene from George Miller’s post-apocalyptic thriller Mad Max: Fury Road. There are no bones to pick here.
After seemingly slipping in an unpredictable awards season, “Spotlight” rebounded Thursday, landing six nominations including best director for McCarthy, best screenplay for McCarthy and Josh Singer, best supporting actress for Rachel McAdams and best supporting actor for Mark Ruffalo.
Apart from Best Picture, Best Actor for DiCaprio and Best Director for Inarritu, the movie has bagged nominations for Best Supporting Actor (Tom Hardy), Best Cinematography, Sound Editing, Costume Design, Sound Mixing, and Film Editing, production design, visual effects and make up and styling.
Otherwise, though, not a lot to bitch about.
The Oscar nominees for actor are: Bryan Cranston, “Trumbo”, Matt Damon, “The Martian”; Leonardo DiCaprio, “The Revenant”; Michael Fassbender, “Steve Jobs”; and Eddie Redmayne, “The Danish Girl”.
Veteran British actress Rampling, who receives a nod for marital drama 45 Years, faces competition in the best actress category from Cate Blanchett for Carol, Brie Larson for Room, Jennifer Lawrence for Joy and Saoirse Ronan for Brooklyn.

Pioneer-era drama “The Revenant” led the Oscar nominations on Thursday with 12 nods, including best picture.
The lesbian romance “Carol”, overlooked for best picture, also managed to come up with six nominations, as did “Bridge of Spies”, a best picture nominee directed by Steven Spielberg.
Adapted Screenplay: “The Big Short”, “Brooklyn”, “Carol”, “The Martian”, “Room”. They are: “The Big Short”, “Bridge of Spies”, “Brooklyn”, “Mad Max: Fury Road”, “The Martian”, “The Revenant”, “Room” and “Spotlight”.
