The Salvation Army cares for the community
The Salvation Army helps those in need year round but on days like thanksgiving they understand the importance of keeping the same people in holiday spirit.
This is the first Thanksgiving in Boyertown for Lt. Joe Smith and his wife, Lt. Rebecca Smith, as officers with the Salvation Army.
However, rather than going out to shop on Black Friday this year, Benson and his family are helping the Salvation Army get ready to help needy families for Christmas in the Magic Valley.
Where anyone in need of a hot meal is served all the holiday fixings, from green bean casserole, to mash potatoes, cake, pie. “We wanted to give a special meal to them”, Garces said.
Volunteer Richard Waters said, “God needs me here, that’s what I think”.
“Miller said he’s grateful for the salvation army’s service”, said Lt. Amber Meo of the Salvation Army.
The Salvation Army started ringing bells for the Christmas season last week.
Many of you may be cooking a Thanksgiving meal for family on Thanksgiving Day- imagine if you were expecting hundreds of guests. And every community. There are people who just can’t make it, on what they make.
“Absolutely, please donate, that money helps us do the most good here in Starkville and Oktibbeha County, and the surrounding areas we also serve”, Walker said. “It’s just a day with a big meal if we don’t come up here and serve”.
He said he tries to follow a recipe of love and puts his heart in his food. Captain Sarah Steele emphasized that volunteers are needed December 9-12 to help organize and prepare for distribution.
