The ‘Sherlock’ Victorian Christmas Special Trailer Is Here
The one with the soggy bottoms.
However, Moffat told EW, “We never bother to explain why Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson are in the modern world in the normal series; why should we bother explaining now that we’re back in Victorian times?” The first full-length trailer for the TV show’s Christmas special has landed online and it gave us chills!
The best part about the trailer apart from our nutcrack high functioning socio-path and sane Doctor are Una Stubbs and Amanda Abbington in their Victorian dresses.
The Victorian special will air later this year on BBC One in the United Kingdom and PBS Masterpiece in the U.S., while “Sherlock” new season four is set to premier in 2016.
“We have a plan…we practically reduced our cast to tears by telling them about the plan”, he teased. At one point, Watson asks, “What made you like this?” as the music builds to a crescendo.
Keeping much of the plot under wraps, the 1.30minute trail shows the pair clatter through cobbled streets in horse-drawn carriages, running through spooky mansions and touches on Holmes’ brilliant, but insufferable nature. The teaser also shows that the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle characters maintain their compatibility and flair, even after departing from modernity.
The BBC is billing this as a “Christmas special”, pinning its United Kingdom broadcast to December. Nevertheless, this is the first new entry in the Sherlock canon since the superb Season 3 closer, and to say I’m excited would be the understatement of the year.
Previously, a mini episode aired in Christmas 2013 as a prelude to the season 3 and that went out on the 24th of December. Fans and the press alike want to know why Holmes and Watson suddenly end up in 19th century England when we’re used to seeing them in a more modern setting. Weve known Watson would be sporting a ridiculous mustache and that the special episode would not be canon, but now theres a few real, extensive footage from the series, courtesy of the BBC.
