The ‘show biz’ in Trump’s GOP convention far short of A-list
The Republican National Convention’s celebrity speaking list Monday night included a reality TV star, “Chachi”, and an underwear model turned soap opera actor with an immigrant’s story.
Middle America loves Robertson and his “Duck Dynasty” clan too.
In this episode of The Willie Robertson Podcast, Willie and Johnny D are joined by Willie’s “half-Robertson” cousin, Zach Dasher, who ran for Louisiana’s 5th Congressional District in 2014. And like the businessman he is, he was there to make a sale.
The reality star shared a clear message of support for the presumptive Republican nominee: “No matter who you are, Donald Trump will have your back”. Ted Cruz, appearing in a memorable ad during the GOP primary that featured the two of them hunting ducks. “But I’m going to throw one more up with the way things are going on in this county”. Are you cheering because we’re ugly? Just like you kill your children, that’s why we kill you. Robertson has a family of six and grew up shooting guns. His prayer – while simple and concise – set the tone for his speech and gets to the heart of who he is. “If you’re a serviceman fighting overseas or a cop, who is risking their life to keep us safe at home, Donald Trump will have your back”. He was up there to press the case that the United States was beset by a risky tide of political correctness that was obscuring the important, honest commentary of folks like Donald Trump and his dad. It doesn’t mean getting free stuff. He added that when he first began doing interviews and journalists learned he was from the South, they immediately began talking “real slow and real loud”. The Louisiana business owner became one of the earliest and most vocal supporters of Trump. “You can feel it and you can see it everywhere”, Baio said. “Today, in a lot of ways, in a lot of ways, America is in a bad spot and we need a president, who will have our back”.
And in his brief, down-to-earth conversational speech, Robertson addressed the audience at the RNC like an inside voice they already knew too well. “You may not always agree and he may not always be politically correct but when your father is Phil Robertson, I’m used to that ok?” he continued.
“I’ll say this”, Robertson concluded.
That element of honesty can not go unnoticed or under appreciated.
This is exactly what Trump has been saying but not-quite-saying this whole campaign.
