The show must go on: Injured Grohl performs from throne
You may remember when the Foo Fighters frontman broke his leg – AND KEPT PLAYING! – at a show last month, canceling a string of European concerts after.
So in order to make sure he could perform at last night’s concert, the singer designed the special Game Of Thrones-style chair, while “high as a kite” on pain medication. And yes, it moves too.
Based off of an elaborate drawing Grohl doodled while medicated in the hospital, the road crew crafted the throne, adorned with a collection of guitars, lights and speakers. Grohl underwent surgery after dislocating his ankle and snapping his fibula.
Grohl’s leg, wrapped in a purple-coloured cast, rested on display as he rocked out to songs from their first album.
The band’s publicist also confirmed that the full tour will still be happening by sending out a slightly altered tour routing under the heading “Foo Fighters begin North American tour dates with July 4th 20th Anniversary blowout”.
Among the many support acts on the daylong festival bill were Buddy Guy, Gary Clark Jr., Heart, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, LL Cool J, RDGLDGRN, Trombone Shorty, and Trouble Funk.
As well as performing Monkey Wrench, Big Me, Everlong, Breakout and Best Of Me, Grohl told the story of what happened in Sweden.
