The Show Returns to Victorian Era, Makes a TV Comeback — Sherlock’ News
The BBC recently revealed that series four of the show will start shooting next spring.
Sherlock finally has a return date, a title, and an exciting announcement for viewers in the United Kingdom and the United States!
The Sherlock special – titled Sherlock: The Abominable Bride – will air in both territories on Friday, January 1, 2016.
But the air date and title for the upcoming “Sherlock” Victorian special have themselves remained a mystery – until now. According to BBC One, the special will premiere on New Year’s Day and it will appear in movie theaters worldwide, granting everyone access to the tenacious sleuth and his faultless comrade, Dr. John Watson. Because what better way to kick off a brand new year than by traveling back 100+ years? Instead, we’re going to take a look ahead at the fourth season proper of the show, which has already been ordered and will feature Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman in the present.
When asked why they made a decision to go back to the story’s 19th century roots, Moffat said they just wanted to see the characters as written by Doyle.
Oh, and lest we forget, there’s also a new full trailer for the special.
Gatiss: “Of course we could do anything we liked, but it’s [already] the definition of a special, a huge Christmas treat. We’ve done a few reintroductions about nine times anyway, so we called a halt to them”. The likes of Rupert Graves, Louise Brealey, Jonathan Aris, Amanda Abbington and Una Stubbs will all be around, but given Victorian twists.
The cinema screening will also include extra material including Moffat giving a guided tour of 221B Baker Street and behind-the-scenes footage from the making of the episode.
