The Simpson’s Smithers to come out as gay
The long-suffering assistant of the villainous Montgomery Burns will finally come out as gay to his boss in the 27th series of the animated show.
His big reveal will be part of a two-episode plot arc, Jean said.
Mr Smithers’ sexuality and devotion to Mr Burns has been one of the mainstays on the show with quotes like “No, don’t make me take a vacation Mr Burns”. Hopefully this means love is in store for our favorite nuclear power plant employee (sorry Carl).
Although the audience, and most other characters, have known for years, his boss certainly does not.
Naturally, Smithers wouldn’t be the first person to come out on the show.
“The Simpsons” showrunner Al Jean suggests this just may be the year that Smithers comes out to Mr. Burns.
“After Bart replaces the head of the Jebediah Springfield statue, Mr. Burns is overcome with emotion, and tells Smithers that he loves him”.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Shearer has signed on for two more seasons of the show with an estimated $300,000 payout for each episode.
“The Simpsons” 27th season premiered on Fox last night, with an episode which featured a guest appearance from ‘Girls” star Lena Dunham. In season 16’s “There’s Something About Marrying”, Patty tells Marge she’s a lesbian, and that she’s getting married to a woman named Veronica (who turns out to be a man… don’t ask).
