‘The Simpsons’ to air first one-hour episode; poor Mr. Burns
When you’re on the air for twenty-eight seasons, there isn’t a lot of room for “first ever” moments left, but The Simpsons is getting their first ever hour-long episode this season.
The episode titled “The Great Phatsby”, follows Mr. Burns (Harry Shearer) as he tries to relive his glory days and crosses paths with a mysterious music mogul. Not only that, but Taraji P. Henson of “Empire” fame is now slated to guest star alongside Keegan-Michael Key of “Key & Peele”.
The crossover episode has historically been the artistic high point of any show that has dared to attempt it.
The lavish setting for this romp will be the Springfield Hamptons, as Jay G gets Burns addicted to the plush excesses of hip-hop life, waits for him to go broke, then steals the power plant out from under him.
“Burns is an old-school Gatsby and Jay G is a new-school Gatsby”, “Simpsons” executive producer Matt Selman told EW, “and their mutual Gatsbyism brings them together”. “Part 1 of the show I would subtitle as “The Betrayal, ‘ and part 2 I would subtitle as ‘The Revenge, ‘” he says”.
Cookie Praline (voiced by Henson), and rapper Jazzy James (Key & Peele’s Keegan-Michael Key).
Henson isn’t the only Empire force coming to Springfield.
The episode will also include original hip-hop songs created by Jim Beanz, who creates music for Empire. Oh, and there will be a goose that is apparently very amusing.
