The six head coaches LeBron James has played for in the National Basketball Association
The Cleveland Cavaliers have fired head coach David Blatt according to a report by Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports.
Cavaliers general manager David Griffin did not consult superstar forward Lebron James before making the coaching change, ESPN reported.
Blatt led Cleveland to the NBA Finals a year ago.
Under Blatt, the Cavs’ were an Eastern Conference-best 30-11 this season, but there were grumblings several weeks ago that his job may not be safe. LeBron James, who wasn’t involved in getting Blatt fired, had been an advocate for Lue becoming the teams head coach since previous year.
Blatt came to the National Basketball Association last season to coach the rebuilding Cavaliers after a long career in Europe and Israel. “We are far from flawless and we are still not at our best, but it’s not for lack of effort and it’s not for lack of good group of guys that want to do their job as best as they possibly can and I think have done pretty well so far”, he said.
Blatt coached in the Euroleague for several years, which culminated in a league title with Maccabi Tel Aviv in 2014.
“It’s about my team”, Blatt said.
Lue was recruited to Cleveland by LeBron James, after spending time as an assistant under Doc Rivers with the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Clippers.
Blatt led the Russian national team to the 2007 Eurobasket championship, 2011 Eurobasket bronze medal and 2012 London Olympics bronze medal.
The Warriors routed Cavaliers, 132-98, at Quicken Loans Arena.
This will be Lue’s first shot at being head coach, after being on the bench in Cleveland and with Doc Rivers in Los Angeles.
–Steve Kerr returned to the Golden State Warriors on Friday and plans to be on the bench in his role as head coach when the team hosts the Indiana Pacers.
Blatt was in his second season with the Cavs. The Cavs suffered an embarrassing 34-point loss earlier this week to Golden State.
