The solemnity of our Lord Jesus Christ, king of the Universe
In the kingdom of Caesar, people who are different are treated differently and there’s injustice, and it’s important to understand that and resist it. The only people bowing in Jesus’ kingdom will be those who fall on their faces to worship the King of kings and Lord of lords. Mocked by soldiers and a criminal who was dying with him on a cross, He reached out to save one more soul, the criminal on his other side. “Save yourself, and us as well!”
I hope you will take the opportunity to pass through the Cathedral holy door before the end of Sunday’s special Mass with the intention of deep conversion, repentance for all sins, and a desire to receive God’s mercy and live by the Gospel. For us it is just: this is payment for what we have done.
What would you do if the President of the United States were to come to your house for a visit? Hence he can say to the “good thief”, “today you will be with me in paradise”. When the early Christians proclaimed that Jesus is Lord, that was a unsafe claim, because if Jesus is Lord, Caesar is not.
Today, the whole Church solemnly celebrates the Solemnity of Christ the King and he reigns in His kingdom.
Levity aside, is Christ really a king? Christ has faithfully obeyed the will of His father. God will work wonders in the life of people to demonstrate that He is the Almighty God and nothing is impossible for Him. This is a attractive example how we can converse with Christ. For the Romans, to die through crucifixion was the ultimate way of killing. The Amplified version of the Bible sets it clearly in Hebrews 2:16: “For, as we all know, He [Christ] did not take hold of angels [the fallen angels, to give them a helping and delivering hand], but He did take hold of [the fallen] descendants of Abraham [to reach out to them a helping and delivering hand]”.
Symbols are culturally embedded in a given society or community as these are expressions of a certain identity of that particular society or group. There’s usually someone in the crowd suggesting we tell what we are thankful for. Just as the deity of Jesus Christ verifies the exclusive claims of Jesus Christ regarding salvation, the divine origin of the Bible gives credence to the New Testament claims that Christianity provides the only means of salvation.
Jesus is All in All, the Answer to Every Question. Every day the same / Jesus! And for this, he conquered death. Remember, religious leaders plotted to see Jesus crucified. At the beginning of his ministry, Jesus is recognized by Nathanael as “the Son of God… the King of Israel” (Jn 1:49). Sacramental confession absolves us from the guilt of our sins and the eternal punishment due to them, but not the temporal (temporary) punishment due to them. Let’s think about the apostle Paul’s words in 1 Thessalonians 5:18, where he says to us “in everything give thanks, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus!”
This is where I choose to put my only allegiance and trust-Jesus Christ alone. His crucifixion is a requirement for his resurrection. We need leaders of vision to counter, before it’s too late, the alarming emerging scenario. God has transferred us, he says, from the powers of darkness to the kingdom of his beloved Son who has reconciled all things to himself, making peace by the blood of his cross. He realized that Jesus wasn’t seeking an escape, because the cross revealed who he was as the Word made flesh, in solidarity with humanity and trusting the Father. If we as Christians condemn and attack one candidate for their marital issues or various scandals, and then proceed to ignore or defend the exact same issues that reflect the candidate we chose to support, doesn’t that make us hypocrites? Last night around 9pm, as we began our family devotions, I thought I had my homily pretty well written.
