The Taken King brings major changes to Destiny’s quest system
The Taken King will be launched on all platforms on September 15, and gamers will also be able to play the quests that were previously only offered on PlayStation-branded devices.
The 2.0 update will also include “a number of improvements for all Destiny players”, and more on these will be shared in the coming weeks.
Specifically discussing Quests today, Smith said they want to provide more Destiny experiences like the ones with Exotic Bounty Chains (such as Thorn and Bad Juju) where you were taken “on a journey through multiple activities – which in the best cases had flashes of unique moments and ended with rewards players cared about”. Quests are an arrangement of activities and challenges that tell a story and represent a journey to the player. At this point, Destiny has had two pretty meaty expansions added to the core game, both offering new content, missions, quest givers and the like. There’s a high-level overview of the current quests available along with an indicator of what step in the quest line the player is now at. Thankfully, new details on The Taken King’s Raid recently surfaced on the Internet. You can see that in the image above.
Bungie’s Creative Director Luke Smith explained how The Taken King’s changes would impact Year One, by making the content ‘questified.’.
The Quests page and the way they are handled inside the game will be updated with the following improvements: “We’re increasing the number of Bounties players can carry, both Quests and Bounty slots will be tracked in the HUD, completed Bounties will be turned in from the Quests screen, reputations will be moved from Inventory to the Quests page”. Guardians can turn in their bounties directly from this page rather than having to return to the Tower.
Bungie had already hinted at this change coming to Destiny by mentioning that the three new Guardian sub-classes will have to be earned through different adventures.
