‘The Tick’ on Amazon Prime Release Date and Cast
All three shows’ half-hour pilots will launch on Amazon Video on August 19.
In March, it was announced that Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television were developing a pilot for a live-action series based on Ben Edlund’s superhero spoof comic book The Tick, with Edlund scripting and serving as an executive producer and British comedic genius Peter Serafinowicz (Shaun of the Dead, Guardians of the Galaxy) cast in the title role. During his attempt to uncover the conspiracy, he meets the unusual blue superhero known as “the Tick”.
The Tick is executive produced by creator Ben Edlund and stars Griffin Newman, Peter Serafinowicz, Jackie Earle Haley, Valorie Curry, Yara Martinez and Brendan Hines.
Of course, what you’re really waiting to see is what Serafinowicz looks like in the titular hero’s smashing blue suit, so without any further ado… Following his creation, the Tick was given a comic book series that lead to an animated TV show, a live action TV show, a video game and lots of cool merchandise. Of course, this was back in the age of films like Mystery Men, Steel, The Phantom, and the Joel Schumacher Batman films, where comic book characters were not taken very seriously on film, so The Tick attempted to come off as a low-budget situation comedy.
“The Tick” will be accompanied by two other comedy pilots.
Wally Pfister – director of photography for The Dark Knight – will be directing The Tick. When they meet Dick (Kevin Bacon, The Following), he taunts their imaginations and upends their preconceptions about love and monogamy. As usual, Amazon is asking viewers to rate the pilots; the ones that receive the best feedback will get orders for full seasons.
