The Undertaker returns to WWE Monday Night Raw and chokeslams Roman Reigns
Even WWE officials have acknowledged that the cruiserweight division and 205 Live as a standalone program is a “work in progress”, as Paul “Triple H” Levesque recently put it. The atmosphere was terrific. “Not you. With all due respect, this is my yard now”. Strowman sent Reigns through a table with a power slam after catching him in another tremendous move. Braun Strowman walking out after the staredown with Taker was intriguing. The Deadman stared Strowman down to the point where the Monster Among Men retreated out of the ring and through the crowd. Heel turn imminent for Sasha? It felt like a sign of respect. Heyman introduces his client, Brock Lesnar, and brings the Conqueror to the ring to shake Goldberg’s hand. Sometimes fans will like the booking decisions, and other times they will not. The way that match ended was somewhat unexpected and could throw things for an interesting loop in the weeks leading up, and the period after WrestleMania. I would not expect Owens to win clean. The actual segment was well done.
Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens opened Raw with “the talk”. Chris Jericho then facd Samoa Joe later on. Whether Jericho played a role in Owens’ loss is irrelevant, but it would advance the rivalry. Both men are heavy hitters and this match promises to deliver.
Chris Jericho and Sami Zayn attack Samoa Joe and Kevin Owens. After Bill speared Brock and eliminated him during the 2017 Royal Rumble, “The Beast” demanded another match with the ex-WCW champion. The two had an effective and often vicious match with Neville pulling out his former finisher – the “Red Arrow” – for the victory. The near falls were believable and it was nice to see the live crowd so responsive for a cruiserweight match. Chicago loved Aries, giving him a chant during Neville vs.
Shaq has been publically feuding with current National Basketball Association player JaVale McGee as if they are five-year-olds.
Plus, both Goldberg and Lesnar are well-established names already, and having them bask in the “WrestleMania” spotlight may not do all that much to make them even more recognizable. The new Raw Women’s Champion Bayley defeated Charlotte, who challenged the former for the title earlier.
The majority of WWE fans were outraged by the match – mostly due to the fact that Goldberg has had his moment in the sun, 15 years ago, and now would have been a flawless time for him to give a younger, newer star the win of a lifetime. But the fact is that they’re more popular with fans. Why go through all that trouble to have Strowman and Jax wrestle in squash match after squash match, make them look invincible, then have them lose midcard in the pay-per-view before WrestleMania?
Seth Rollins video: The Rollins character is supposed to be driven by vengeance.
This was great! Seriously, the match was really good and I’m glad WWE finally gave the Cruiserweights some time to tell their story in a big match on Raw.
Triple H Shoots On CM Punk?
Tag Team Championship – Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson (c) vs. Enzo Amore & Big Cass: WWE has done an adequate job rebuilding Gallows and Anderson after hanging them with an very bad comedy gimmick as The Club came to an end. The coffee cup angle at the end of the match was hokey.
The character of Bayley stems from the traditional viewpoint of David vs Goliath in modern combative sports, hyping her up as the underdog in comparison to the bigger names now in the division, like Sasha Banks or Charlotte.
Speaking of messy title pictures, what exactly is going on with the tag division? During the match Cesaro accidentally hit Karl Anderson which led to a disqualification.
Akira Tozawa def. Ariya Daivari by pin with the bridging German suplex. The wrestlers did fine and it was just the latest showcase of Tozawa, but it still felt flat.
Last night’s Raw was a full packed show in compared to the previous episodes of this year.
