The Voice 2015 Recap 11/17/15
CLICK: What happened behind the scenes of last night’s live show? Soon after, Amy Vachal from Team Adam was revealed as being in the top 11 as well. Finally, earning the lowest placement of the bunch was Team Gwen’s Braiden Sunshine, whose cover of “Renegade” landed him in the 76-spot.
Of course, Stefani and he had been compelled to sing it as a playful duet – and it was before the two coaches (recently divorced from their respective spouses) had admitted they were romantically involved. Adam Levine told him, “I am a fan”. Who can say? And none of this is to say there weren’t a few fine performances.
Tuesday at 8 pm will be elimination night, where one contestant will be leaving the competition based on America’s votes. Mark had a bad song choice and just couldn’t make it work for him. Her confidence came through, and the singing seemed effortless. He brings 17-year-old Shelby Brown to tears with this observation during rehearsals, and most certainly does not get her out of her head for her performance of Jamey Johnson’s “In Color”. Musically it was tonally appealing, if a bit drowsy and emotionally lacking. “I thought it was gorgeous”, Stefani said. This left Mark Hood and Korin Bukowski in the bottom two, having to perform for the Instant Save.
To break things up, Blake, whose latest album you can buy here, took the stage next with his team members, Emily Ann, Barrett Baber and Zach Seabaugh to give a performance of “Lean On Me”, and with all four of them being country artists, it was a perfectly cohesive rendition.
“That’s so awesome…You said you’ve been performing for six years like you were 30 (years-old)”, Levine said. All the coaches admired the progress Roberts had made already during the course of the show.
Korin Bukowski from Team Gwen was up next and performed “Titanium”. Williams called the performance “transformational”. “We’ve seen him do nearly every style you can do”, says Blake, adding, “You need to do a country song”.
Missing a bonus by just a single placement was Team Blake Shelton’s Barrett Baber, whose spin on the Richard Marx ballad “Right Here Waiting” placed 11th. And his team captain said, “You nailed it. I am so glad to have you on my team”. Pharrell praised Hood for showing people another side of himself.
When asked who the contestants’ biggest contender might be, majority said that it was Jordan Smith as he delivered great and consistent performances throughout the season, E! This time, there will be no jumping around the stage or throwing every trick he knows at a song. He did it again with James Bay’s “Let It Go”.
“You are our greatest dream on the show, to have somebody who starts off a good singer, but kind of winds up here, who is to me one of the best in the competition”, says Adam. In fact, at one point, she got a bit ahead of the band, but she recovered and handled the mistake with grace. With her distinct bluegrass tones, Emily Ann has a sound that could take her far – but I don’t know if she has the vocal instincts or ability to back up her natural talents.
Closing out the night from Team Blake was Zach Seabaugh with the country song “My Love” by Little Texas. I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of people didn’t vote for Korin because they legitimately didn’t recognize her. Daly announced that McKeel, who sang “This Is It” by Kenny Loggins last night, was through the next round.
Mark Hood, from Team Pharrell, sang Phil Collins’ “Against All Odds”. For his performance last night, Mark took the calmer route and just sang.
The results were spread out evenly and done quickly throughout the show, though host Carson Daly kept randomly asking the singers questions in the awkward way that only he can.
