The Voice could go to ITV in 2017
What’s more, ITV also purchased the production company behind the show, Talpa Media, earlier this year. “So I’d like to do it, I’d like to do it, especially if it’s going to be the last one”.
However, despite Johnny wanting the BBC to mainly focus on making programmes about particle physics and wool, that doesn’t mean the Corporation shouldn’t be in the business of entertaining the masses, which it routinely does with its own programming franchises like “Doctor Who”, “EastEnders” and “Strictly Come Dancing“.
The Sun’s TV Biz states that BBC executives are “under pressure” to axe the show, given that it costs millions to stage every year, and of course, unlike ITV, the BBC has no commercial sponsorship and are ultimately answerable to licence fee payers about how their cash is spent.
Plus, judge Rita Ora has already from over to their X Factor rival ahead of both new series starting. A deal is becoming more realistic by the day.
So far, The Voice is contracted to stay with the BBC for one more series in 2016 and as it nears its end, rumours have surfaced suggesting the talent show could then switch channels to ITV. January to April has been a quiet time for them since they dropped Dancing on Ice in 2014.
It followed a panel shake-up, which saw Jessie J and Danny O’Donoghue depart after series two and Kylie Minogue the following year.
Will ITV be adding The Voice to their list of shows?
In April, Cowell tipped The Voice to last despite its lack of hits.
“My gut feeling is there are now four talent shows that will probably last for quite a long time and that’s The X Factor, Britain’s Got Talent, Strictly and The Voice“.
However, as reported by The Guardian, an ITV spokesman has since said: “We are not going to indulge in speculation – the BBC has a contract for The Voice into 2016″.
