‘The Voice’ ousts Mark Hood after America saves Korin Bukowski
HOLLYWOOD-The Top 12 contestants performed on Monday night’s episode of Season 9 of NBC’s “The Voice”. One of the artists will be eliminated on Tuesday’s results show.
Carson opens the show talking way more than he should. The stage was lit in the colors of the French flag.
So the saves are the expected Barrett from Team Blake and Braiden from Team Gwen. Afterwards, she declared Braiden “nailed it”. And Adam unsurprisingly chose to save Amy Vachal, whose Blind Audition remains one of the standout performances of Season 9. “I’ve always wanted to do a rock song on a big stage and this is the biggest stage I could ever imagine”.
When will Adam Levine learn that the worst thing to say to someone who’s stuck in their head is that they are stuck in their head?
This leaves Team Gwen’s Korin Bukowski and Team Pharrell’s Mark Hood to perform a song of their choosing for the instant save. Amy was also another artist that made it onto the iTunes Top 10 with her performance of Drake’s “Hotline Bling”. And she made me root for her to ultimately take third place this season, after my above-mentioned favorites Jeffery and Madi. But like Pharrell said, Hood’s got a future in music with or without The Voice. Blake congratulated Roberts for commanding the stage as if it was hers.
The window for votes is closed and the instant save goes to Team Gwen’s Korin Bukowski. It’s a hard song to sing, but Bukowski had the range for it. She finally seems to have completely gotten over her initial nerves, and it’s becoming clearer that she is a strong player in this competition. The remaining artists will perform once again for America’s vote, with one getting sent home on Tuesday night’s results show.
In the past, when Pharrell has told Mark Hood to tone it down, it’s only come down from day-glo to neon. Pharrell’s advice to his artist was to “get out of your head”. Instead, she plays it completely straight and loses out on the fun of the song.
Barrett Barber was next and sang his own version of “Right Here Waiting” by Richard Marx. Team Pharrell’s Evan McKeel, Team Adam’s Shelby Brown and Team Blake’s Zach Seabaugh are now part of the roster. A few got into the next round through the people’s votes while a few were saved by the judges. The two artists at risk were from the usual teams that find themselves on the chopping block in the early rounds of live playoffs. “So I plan to continue to show America different sides of me”. No, Evan and Mark perform with Madi and Pharrell as their backup singers.
Team Adam’s Jordan Smith sang the gospel standard “Great Is Thy Faithfulness”, noting his fondest memory was singing in church with his family and performing at the Vatican with his church choir. Referring to Friday’s terrorist attack in Paris, Levine thanked Smith for making “all of us feel like there’s a lot of hope”.
Zach Seabaugh of Team Blake closed the show with “My Love”, by Little Texas. Get a full recap of everything that went down here!
“To have a voice as unique as yours and as powerful and have the stage presence that you have… it’s like you’re our greatest dream, to have somebody who starts off a good singer and winds up here, which is one of the best in the competition”.
